What is a Joy-prenuer?
A joy-preneur is someone who starts their own business to find more joy in their own lives, create joy in the lives of others, and to live out their purpose using their God-given gifts and talents towards a greater good.
By aligning our personal values with the work we do, we create a wonderful sense of joy and intention with our every day work.
So does that mean owning a business is always full of rainbows and butterflies and unicorns?
Um. no. There are endless articles about the extensive list of challenges entrepreneurs endure. We all know that running your own business has tremendous ups and downs.
For this very reason, loving what we do and experiencing JOY while doing it takes intention, discipline and habit. It’s about living out this passion through the day to day trials of business ownership by sharpening our intuition and self-awareness skills.
While it takes tremendous heart and soul to start a company, it then takes creating purposeful moments of joy to keep going as the business matures. By surfing the ups and downs while being committed to our purpose regardless of outcome, we experience immense happiness! True joy-prenuership.
This blog is designed to help us understand more about the tools and resources required to do what we love, and love what we do.
Who am I?
Yes! Hello. My name is Laura Novak Meyer and I’m the owner, founder and CEO of Little Nest Portraits, a growing luxury boutique photography franchise. We empower others to become successful, joyful, balanced Little Nest portrait studio owners.
You can learn more about me, and how I started Little Nest in this video:
Over the last fifteen years I’ve learned that business ownership can provide the GREATEST joys and sense of purpose, and at the same time the most challenging moments of DEEP discouragement and overwhelm without the right tools and resources in place.
I started this blog to share some of the stories I’ve personally experienced on this journey, as well as the wisdom of others, to open up a conversation of encouragement and support.
Through providing coaching, training and empowerment within the Little Nest franchise organization, I love to help women to do what they love (and love what they do!) while balancing their families at home.
This blog is a personal project started in the midst of my own personal growth from founder/entrepreneur to CEO. I’m deeply passionate about helping others find joy, create life-balance and develop a plan for purposeful entrepreneurship. I’d like to replace the “hustle” message we often hear around the idea that you have to sacrifice it all – personal happiness, time with your family, and joyfulness – to be a successful and profitable entrepreneur. As a recovering workaholic I have found that this common message is counterproductive to both success AND joy, and buying into that idea contributes to the plethora of mental health challenges many entrepreneurs face.
I have over fifteen years experience of successfully running companies – mostly in the photography space – and am honored to have my business advice found in:
